We are located in Derbyshire just about Middle England and very close to the Peak District, a National Park of outstanding beauty with rolling hills, moorland and farmland. There are numerous towns to visit that display fine architecture and whether they are Mill towns or Market towns each has its own unique character and customs. Learn about the Royal Shrovetide football in Ashbourne, try a pudding in Bakewell and visit Buxton, known as the gateway to the Peak District. Buxton is a Georgian Spa town with Roman origins, you can even take the waters from a constantly running spring in the town centre.
Villages are also of interest with their pubs, churches and village halls. The annual special occasions of Well Dressing or a village fete are always worth attending with displays of Morris dancing and brass bands. You will most certainly have the opportunity to experience afternoon tea, as tea shops are plentiful.
Our cities are some of the worlds most culturally diverse. Some are a perfect blend of old and new with thriving arts centres mixing with industry and commerce, see Leicester, Nottingham and Manchester. They are historic but futuristic with unusual shops, fine restaurants and a strong cultural diversity. Others such as York and Chester have strong Roman, Viking and Medieval Anglo Saxon ties with relics, monuments and architectural treasures to see. They are lovely for walking through, with many interesting and picturesque half-timbered buildings visit middle England.
