What can we expect the weather to be like?
The English weather is unpredictable, but the best period is usually late April to September. Winter (December to early March) tend to be cold and wet. Daylight hours are also short. Spring (March to May) can provide some lovely sunny spells, but also showers. Summer (June to August) provides the hottest and driest weather but it can become cool in the evenings. Autumn (September to November) can provide some warm late sunny days, but it can produce some cold ones as well.
What is the best clothing to bring?
Come prepared for any sort of weather in England and a wide variety of temperatures. Just as sunny intervals can happen at any time so can showers, a lightweight water proof coat is useful. Dress in layers so that you can add or subtract as needed to be comfortable. Even if the day starts off well it’s likely that the temperature will change. Shoes suitable for short walks on rough or uneven ground are also suggested. An umbrella may be an idea but we do have an adequate supply should they be needed!
Is there a limit on the amount of luggage I can bring?
Like airlines, there is only so much luggage we can fit into our vehicle and we do not want to find that we cannot fit all guests and their luggage in during transfers. Please could we ask that you do not bring excess luggage and keep within airline baggage limits.  If the party size is small then there will, of course, be more space!
What’s the best way to bring money with me?
Bring some cash in pounds sterling.  Credit cards are accepted in most places. Visa and Mastercard are the most widely accepted. American Express cards are accepted in fewer establishments. Credit cards with a Chip and PIN have become nearly compulsory. One thing to keep in mind is that some establishments and shops will only allow cards to be used (including debit cards) over £5 or £10. Also check your credit card charges for foreign currency transactions some charge extra. ATM’s are plentiful. Value Added Tax (VAT) is 20%. Added to sales and services, it is included in prices posted or quoted. Travellers cheques can be used but you must exchange them in a bank or a bureau de change for cash, showing your passport for identification.
What is in Belper?
We are lucky to live on the edge of Belper, having both rural and town views. The town is within walking distance but it is down hill, which means up hill on the way back!  There are numerous friendly pubs and a range of restaurants offering different cuisines, should you wish to dine out. The shops are varied, small boutiques with gifts, food shops, chemists, cafes and tea shops; there is also a fashion designer outlet complex in one of the old mill buildings. The beautiful River Gardens are only 5 minutes walk as is the North Mill Museum – quite a tourist attraction. The railway and bus station are in the centre of the town.
What facilities are provided in rooms
All rooms have; smart TV, DAB radio alarm, silent mini refrigerators, beverage making facilities, hairdryers, bathrobes, slippers, plentiful supply of towels and toiletries. All rooms are en suite (private bathroom) and have showers. Two have baths in addition. We suggest you see our website www.bridgehillhouse.co.uk and look at “our rooms†providing details and photographs.
Are there WIFI facilities?
We have secure wifi at Bridge Hill House which you are welcome to use. We will provide the code.
What about air conditioning?
Our vehicle has air conditioning. Bridge Hill House has a fresh air ventilation system which is different from air conditioning. Stale air is removed from rooms and fresh air is brought in. The weather in England does not usually get that hot to call for air conditioning. All our guest rooms are on the ground floor where the air is generally cooler.  For the cooler months we have both under floor heating as well as radiators in bedrooms so you can control the temperature.
What about my small electrical appliances, can I use them?
If you wish to bring any electrical appliances, be aware that the electrical current in England is 240V and the cycle is 50Hz and you will need a converter if you have appliances that don’t accept this voltage. Square three-pin plugs are standard.
Can you provide for special diets/food allergies?
Yes, please advise at time of booking and we will do our best to accommodate you.
